When it comes to obesity, how can we shift the conversation from individual choices to recognizing and treating it as a chronic medical condition?

Empathy, evidence, and personalized clinician education are reshaping obesity care. We explore the evolution of obesity as a complex chronic disease, strategies for addressing weight bias and stigma in healthcare, and why creating a trusting, supportive environment for patients is just as essential as staying current with the latest clinical evidence.

"Empathy isn't separate from evidence-based care - it's part of it. The science tells us that respectful, non-stigmatizing communication strengthens the therapeutic relationship. It improves patient engagement and it supports long-term outcomes. So when patients feel heard, respected, and supported, they're much more likely to stay engaged in their care."
-Silvana Ferrara, RPh
